While most kids go through their astronaut, ballerina, or cowboy phases, Dr. Karen Tinkham says that she never did. She was barely four years old when she told her parents she wanted to be a veterinarian. By the time she was working as a kennel assistant when she was just fifteen years old, she was absolutely hooked!
Dr. Tinkham was born in Connecticut but grew up in northeastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and southern Maine. She started her veterinary career in high school when she worked as a kennel attendant. After working at a 24-hour SPCA in Massachusetts during her undergraduate studies, she was accepted to the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Four years later, she graduated with her DVM degree.
Dr. Tinkham started working at Milford Veterinary Hospital in 2009. She became a partner in 2013 and owner in 2018.
Medically, Dr. Tinkham enjoys teaching clients about preventative health. She enjoys surgery, especially spaying and neutering pets to help control the animal population. She also strives to control pain and maintain a patient’s comfort level.
She lives with her wife of 30 years, their 2 dogs, and 3 cats. In her spare time, she loves snorkeling, traveling, and spending time with her family.
